First Day

After surviving the 11 hour plane ride with a crying baby behind us, we took the train to Shirokane. The train system was so quiet that you had to look and see if it was actually moving or not. You're supposed to either put your phone in 'manners mode', or go to the private 'room of shame' because it's rude to speak on your cellphone in public-- "Please do not use your cellphone, it will annoy the neighbors." Shirokane is extremely busy and crowded. The tiny houses are all connected. The refrigerators are really little so the Japanese go to the markets daily. We are looking forward to a day of touring and a Sumo wrestling match on TV later this evening.

they have heated toilet seats...we feel right at home.

  2. Heated toilet seats, eh? How does that work? I like "manners mode." Young William got his driver's permit today. He legally drove the minivan with me in shotgun. Wish I was there eating sushi with you.
